The holidays will start soon. This is the time when we forget about worries
and responsibilities and focus on rest. Let's not let the blissful relaxation time be spoiled by an unexpected toothache. Bogdan Ciążyński, a dentist, suggests how to take care of your teeth before and during your vacation.
Don't delay your follow-up visit
If you go for a check-up too late, it may turn out that you won't have time to heal the defects before your departure, which will spoil your trip. So make sure to make an appointment a few weeks before your planned vacation. Thanks to this, any problems with teeth or gums can be treated in time.
Remember that high temperature favors the multiplication of anaerobic bacteria in the oral cavity and if the process of pulp decay or tooth necrosis has already begun, it may lead to pain, swelling and even high temperature. A visit to the dentist, for example in a foreign country, can significantly reduce your holiday budget. So take care of your teeth before leaving.
An active holiday requires healthy teeth
Do you dive? Do you hike in the mountains? Do you fly by plane? A sudden change in pressure may cause unpleasant pain and a feeling of expansion if the treated teeth are poorly filled, dead or have cavities. The dentist will check whether there is any such risk and will make sure that any problems disappear.
Be careful
It is during the holidays that the number of visits to dental offices by people with injuries or missing teeth increases. Sports games, roller skating, climbing, cycling, and jumping into the water may cause partial tooth fractures, loss of teeth or part of the crown. So be careful and if necessary, go to the dentist's office immediately.
A snow-white smile
Before your holiday, take care of a beautiful, white smile that will perfectly match your holiday tan. Vacation is often time spent in a group and meeting new people. Remember that the first impression is very important, so I encourage you to take advantage of hygiene or whitening treatments that will allow you to charm your friends with a snow-white smile that will give you self-confidence.
Forget about problems - remember about hygiene!
Vacation is a period in which the main task to be performed is relaxation. Remember, however, that you should not take a vacation from oral hygiene. Holidays are a time when we often snack between meals and allow ourselves to eat and drink things that are not healthy for our teeth - such as ice cream, sweets, carbonated drinks or more alcohol than usual. We have the right to do so - we are on holiday - but remember to brush, floss and rinse your teeth regularly and frequently, and if you don't have them at hand, also chew sugar-free gum. Make sure your makeup bag includes these tools. Thanks to this, you will not have to spend the first days after your vacation in the dentist's chair.
Replenish fluids
During hot weather, remember to drink adequate amounts of water. I recommend drinking at least 2 liters. Thanks to this, you will ensure the proper functioning of the entire body, provide the oral cavity with the appropriate amount of saliva, which will help fight the threat of caries by rinsing the teeth and maintaining the appropriate pH.
Holidays are meant to rest and gain strength for new challenges, so let's not let anything spoil them, let alone a broken tooth. If you make an appointment for a check-up early enough, and during your vacation you remember about proper oral hygiene, hydration, and exercise caution when playing and practicing sports, I guarantee that a beautiful and healthy smile will accompany you not only during your vacation, but throughout the year. .
